BD FACSDiscover™ S8 Cell Sorter
About
The BD FACSDiscover™ S8 Cell Sorter is a flow-cell-based spectral flow cytometer which allows multi-parameter detection (at least 78 fluorescent detectors plus other scattering parameters) and high-speed sorting into different collection plate/ tube formats. It is also the first imaging cell sorter ever installed in BioCRF. It uses the novel BD CellView™ Image Technology, which captures images of individual cells flowing through the system without a camera. The images could display brightfield signals and up to 3 fluorescent signals coming from blue/488nm-laser-excited fluorochromes. Users could then discriminate cells based on spatial and morphological insights, not just traditional parameters like cell marker expression levels, at event rates of up to 10,000 events per second.

Spatial discrimination of fluorescent signals enables a wide range of potential applications, including the following:
-
Nuclear translocation, protein trafficking and cellular signaling assays.
-
Studies of internalization: phagocytosis/endocytosis assays and drug/metabolite intake.
-
Advanced morphological discrimination of cells.
-
Quality Control: identify doublets, cell aggregates or unlysed red blood cells based on cell image features.
-
Verify the successful permeabilization of cell and nucleus membranes in experiments for intracellular cytokines and transcription factors.
-
Visually inspect the health of the sorted cells: verify cell viability under different sorting conditions (e.g. sheath pressures) to enable successful downstream cell culturing.
